This post shows clearly the reason I find so hard finishing my own projects. At certain point I find myself absolutely lost in the forest of the details and it’s almost impossible to go back and get focus again.
Fortunately, i believe this time, the distraction has paid off.
The background
I’m finishing a new animation for the iNote Project, I need to place a phone in it, but I didn’t want to place the iPhone (you know, general examples, valid for any platform), so I quickly design and built (in 3D) this phone.
The phone
As this will be my dummy phone, just for fun, I decided to go against the current tendency of built small rounded boxes, and make it a little different. So I designed it with each and every line straight, two triangular buttons and some retro details like a secondary screen, steel front face and black steel back cover. And you know what? I really like it.
In the iNote’s video I’m developing right now, the phone, which I call sTRAIGHT, is going to have just a buch of simple icons distributed in an array on the screen, like the iPhone’s one, in order to illustrate some key points. The home screen But I like the phone and as always, the devil is in the details, so I cannot resist the temptation of test the arc-dock concept of the inote project on this small screen, and I believe it works.
What do you think? Do you like the phone? The home screen? Let me know your opinion.
Now, time to go back to the tablet…
Update: I let you the home screen image, so you can check the design and dimensions in your own phone.

This is gorgeous. Absolutely brilliant.
The Phone:
I really like this raw metal shape. It wouldnt worry about accidental drops. Serious look for serious people who require high end phone and top class durability.
Interface:
Second display is great idea. I really like the idea of two “edge buttons” for home and switching apps.
The main display user interface is really clever and intuitive. Im glad you found a place for notification. Your “inFlow” is clean and elegant. Instead of iphone dock you created “Direct Apps”. I dont know if it was your intention but your “Direct Apps” are in a great place. You can easily pick them with one hand. (I mean, great for right-handed). Categories are an obvious element which is still missing from official iPhone OS. Glad you’ve implemented this. The only thing I would change are apps icons, but I think that its only temporary and the latest version of your OS (hypothetically of course) will have customized icons for every application.
Good work:)
Thanks for your comments Paul. I’m glad that you like it.
You are right, the icons are dummies, because they are intended only as a conceptual part of the animation I’m in.
Hope I can finish it soon.
Regards,
Alex
maybe one would implement some kind of “mirroring” option for left/right hand usage, so it could still be used with one hand only.
I think that I reflected the both hands differences in the unlock post, but yes, the system must be both handled ready . Anyway, in a phone format screen, its not strictly needed because you can reach all the screen’s surface with only one thumb. I’ve upload the screen only image so you can test it in your own phone.
More on this in a post that I’ve already wrote but that is waiting to get the video.
